Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Towamencin Police have recently filed DUI charges against a Pottstown woman after discovering her unconscious behind the wheel of a running vehicle late last month. The incident took place at the intersection of Saratoga Lane and Ridgewood Way on January 27th at approximately 6:31 p.m.

Upon receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle idling in the area for over an hour, police officers promptly responded to the scene. They located the vehicle along the unit block of Saratoga Lane and noticed a female driver, later identified as Alison Byrne, in an unconscious state with her vehicle still in drive.

Charging documents reveal that the officers were able to wake Byrne up, following which she put the vehicle in park. Police officers observed signs of confusion and the strong smell of alcohol emanating from her. Additionally, Byrne had glassy eyes and struggled to maintain her balance. When questioned about her whereabouts, she responded, “Somewhere like Coventry, Pottstown,” according to the police report.

Byrne refused to answer when asked if she had been drinking and declined both a portable breath test and a blood-alcohol test. Further, she failed a series of field sobriety tests administered by the police.

Subsequent investigation and her arrest revealed that Byrne had a quarter-full opened bottle of vodka inside her purse. A criminal record check disclosed that she had been arrested for DUI four times within the past year.

Consequently, Alison Byrne has been charged with one felony count of DUI, along with a summary count of restrictions on alcoholic beverages. Court records indicate that she was arraigned the following morning and was subsequently transferred to the county jail, with bail set at $5,000 cash along with a probation detainer.

Alison Byrne’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 21st at 2:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

It is important to note that all suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This article has been compiled using public court records.
