The coroner’s office has identified the man who was fatally shot on February 6 in a residential area of Richmond as Myron Smith, a 50-year-old Oakland resident. The Richmond Police Department has not released any information regarding a possible motive for the killing, nor have they announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Smith’s presence in Richmond and have not disclosed any details regarding his connection to the area. The incident occurred at approximately 10:56 p.m. on February 6 in the 2300 block of Lancaster Drive, near Aberdeen Way.
Second Homicide Investigation of the Year
This unfortunate incident marks the second homicide investigation initiated by the Richmond Police Department in 2024. The department has been actively working to gather information and evidence to bring justice to the victims and their families.
Unrelated Shootings in the Area
Since 2022, the vicinity of Lancaster Drive and Aberdeen Way has witnessed several shootings, including two homicides. However, the police have stated that they do not believe these incidents are connected in any way.
Last March, a 43-year-old man was tragically shot and killed at the intersection of Lancaster Drive and Aberdeen Way. Another shooting took place on February 28, 2023, in which a man sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the 2400 block of Aberdeen Way. Fortunately, the victim survived. Additionally, on August 16, 2022, a 32-year-old man fell victim to a drive-by shooting on the same block, resulting in his untimely death.
