In a sad turn of events, the Archdiocese of Louisville mourns the loss of Father Isaac Stephen McDaniel, a retired priest who passed away on February 12th at the age of 74. With a remarkable 41 years of priesthood, he leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith and dedicated service.

A Life Committed to Faith and Education

Born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky, Father McDaniel’s journey towards priesthood began at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Saint Meinrad, Indiana. It was there that he joined the Benedictine community in 1976, laying the foundation for his lifelong commitment to serving others through his faith.

On May 2, 1982, Father McDaniel was ordained to the priesthood at St. Meinrad, marking the start of his remarkable career. He went on to teach at St. Meinrad Seminary, imparting his knowledge and passion for theology to future generations. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he also served as a pastor of several parishes in Indiana, touching the lives of countless individuals through his compassionate guidance.

Joining the Archdiocese of Louisville

In November of 2002, Father McDaniel was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Louisville, bringing his wealth of experience and wisdom to the local community. Throughout his time in the archdiocese, he served in various roles, including associate pastor of St. Gabriel Church and part-time associate pastor of St. John Vianney and St. Jerome churches.

His dedication to sacramental ministry was evident in his role as sacramental moderator at St. Timothy, Our Lady Help of Christians, and St. Patrick churches in West Point, Kentucky. Additionally, he contributed to the academic community as a faculty member of Bellarmine University and Spalding University, enriching the minds of students while remaining actively involved in the parish community of St. Mary, St. Jerome, and St. Barnabas churches.

Fondly Remembered and Deeply Missed

Father Isaac Stephen McDaniel is survived by his brother John Michael (Barbara Lee), niece Lucy Marie, and nephew Otis McDaniel. His family, friends, and the entire community are left with cherished memories of a man who dedicated his life to serving God and others.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

Visitation to pay respects to Father McDaniel will take place on February 18th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ratterman & Sons, located at 3800 Bardstown Road. On February 19th, visitation will continue at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 508 Breckenridge Lane.

The Mass of Christian Burial, a final celebration of Father McDaniel’s life, will follow at 11 a.m. and will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Following the Mass, Father McDaniel will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
