Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A suspected burglar wasn’t very adept at playing hide-and-seek from deputies on a Florida playground.

Deputies in Flagler County responded to a call at the Casa Montessori School in Palm Coast last Friday after concerned citizens reported a suspicious individual attempting to gain unauthorized access to multiple vehicles and throwing objects over the playground fence.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Julie Martellucci, blatantly disregarded commands to vacate the playground and resorted to hiding from the deputies within a corkscrew tube slide.

After being apprehended from her hiding spot, Martellucci allegedly assaulted a deputy by striking him in the face with her elbow while he was attempting to restrain her.

Further investigation revealed that Martellucci had tossed multiple playground playsets over the fence, toppled others, gained access to a shed on the premises, and made futile attempts to enter the school through various windows.

In bodycam footage of her arrest, Martellucci can be heard asserting that the establishment was closed and that she was present behind it with her pet frog due to her affinity for nature.

Sheriff Rick Staly commented on the incident, stating, “This would-be thief has reached a new low in her attempt to pilfer from local businesses. She left a trail of chaos on a children’s playground and found her way into the Green Roof Inn (the term used by Staly to refer to the local jail). I also extend my gratitude to the vigilant citizens who promptly reported her suspicious behavior, which ultimately led to her arrest. Finally, if you assault a Deputy Sheriff, rest assured you’ll be taking a trip to the Green Roof Inn.”

Martellucci now faces charges of two counts of burglary, resisting arrest with violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
