Waco Shooting Incident

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Authorities have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a shooting incident involving three brothers in Waco, as a second suspect has been apprehended and charged. According to an affidavit, Ramiro Lara Zapata, aged 17, is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault resulting in a spinal injury, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

Earlier, Antonio Renovato Jr., aged 19, was arrested and booked into the McLennan County Jail on February 7. Renovato Jr. is currently being held on bonds totaling $357,000. The arrest of Zapata brings another significant development in the case, offering hope for justice for the victims and their family.

The incident took place on February 3, when law enforcement officers responded to a shooting report in the 1500 block of N. 11th Street. The investigation revealed that the three brothers, identified as Giovanny Lujano, Osiel Lujano, and a 15-year-old boy, were engaged in a weapons exchange with two individuals at the scene.

According to the affidavit, during the exchange, one of the suspects seized Giovanny’s firearm and unexpectedly began firing at the brothers, using their own weapons against them. The shots struck Giovanny in the thigh while the 15-year-old sustained a serious neck injury. Realizing the severity of the situation, the brothers immediately contacted the police for help and left the scene.

Thanks to a meticulous police investigation, officers discovered GPS data from an ankle monitor worn by Zapata, which placed him at the crime scene during the time of the shooting. In addition, a Styrofoam cup found at the scene, believed to belong to the suspects, had the name “Flaco” written on it. This nickname, known to family and friends, was associated with Zapata, further strengthening the case against him.

During a subsequent interview with the police, Renovato admitted that Zapata fired his weapon during the incident, providing corroborating evidence to the investigators. As a result, Zapata has now been taken into custody and is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail.

The arrest of the second suspect is a significant step towards justice for the victims and their family. The authorities will continue their efforts to ensure a thorough investigation, and both suspects will face the legal consequences of their actions. The community now awaits the judicial process to unfold, hopeful that justice will be served.
