Accident – Death – Obituary News :
The individual who opened fire at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, before being killed by security officers, was found to be carrying an AR-style rifle, according to search warrant documents obtained by CBS News. The shooter has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, and the search warrant was issued for a home in Conroe, located approximately 40 miles north of Houston.
The motive behind the attack at the Texas megachurch, which occurred during a busy service on Sunday, remains unclear. A livestream from the church captured the moment gunshots were heard during a Spanish-language service, causing worshippers to flee for safety.
In order to gather more evidence, the search warrant affidavit requested FBI assistance in retrieving any data from electronic devices found in the suspect’s home.
Authorities have reported that a 5-year-old boy who entered the church with the shooter, along with a man in his 50s, were injured in the shooting. The boy is currently in critical condition.
The shooter entered the church wearing a trenchcoat and began firing, prompting two off-duty officers working as church security to return fire, as stated by the police.
It is currently unclear who fired the shot that injured the child. Additionally, the shooter had made threats about possessing an explosive, but the bomb squad found no evidence of any explosives, according to the police.
“It could have been much worse,” Osteen stated during a news conference following the shooting.
