No name given. : “61-Year-Old Man Tries to Grab Girl Walking: Police”

A shocking incident unfolded in the city of Poughkeepsie as a 14-year-old girl walking to school was forcibly grabbed by a 61-year-old man on Wednesday morning.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police PBA reported on Facebook that at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers received a walk-in report regarding the abduction. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Carroll Street, where the young girl was accosted by an unknown man who proceeded to escort her down the street.

Authorities have confirmed that the victim had no prior acquaintance with the perpetrator.

Several witnesses at the scene attempted to intervene and detain the perpetrator. Shockingly, the man claimed to be a police officer and threatened to arrest those who tried to intervene.

However, when confronted further, the man released the terrified child, who was promptly escorted by one of the witnesses to the local police headquarters.

The suspect, identified as a 61-year-old resident of Poughkeepsie, was swiftly apprehended by patrol units and juvenile detectives. Subsequently, he was taken into custody by law enforcement.

Following consultation with the district attorney’s office, the perpetrator has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree criminal impersonation, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

The accused was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and subsequently handed over to the New York State Police to address an outstanding warrant against him.

The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has refrained from releasing the suspect’s name to the public.
