In a devastating turn of events, two individuals have lost their lives and another is currently hospitalized due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in Princeton, a town located approximately 50 miles north of Minneapolis. The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to a distress call regarding a potential overdose at a residence in Princeton Township around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a lifeless body in an upstairs bedroom, later identified as 27-year-old Marcos Larson from Princeton. Additionally, they encountered a partially conscious dog in the same room. Tragically, the authorities also found the lifeless bodies of a woman and a cat in another area of the house. At this time, the woman’s identity has not been disclosed.
Emergency services promptly attended to the situation, rushing the individual who made the distress call to a local hospital in Princeton. Unfortunately, no information regarding her condition is currently available. A team of firefighters and rescue personnel conducted an investigation and determined that the house was filled with a lethal amount of carbon monoxide.
According to Mille Lacs County Sheriff Kyle Burton, preliminary findings indicate that the occupants of the house were relying on propane heaters and space heaters, powered by a gas generator, to warm the dwelling. It is worth noting that the house lacked access to electricity and running water.
Sheriff Burton emphasized the importance of this tragedy in highlighting the inherent dangers associated with carbon monoxide. He sternly cautioned against running combustion engines within enclosed spaces and underscored the necessity of equipping homes with functional carbon monoxide alarms, which can effectively alert individuals to perilous levels of the deadly gas.
