Wild Elephant Attack Leaves Woman Injured

A 40-year-old woman, S. Sivagamy, residing in Ramanathapuram, Thadagam Valley, Coimbatore district, sustained injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant on February 10, 2024.

The incident occurred during the night of February 10 when the woman was peacefully sleeping on a cot placed on the porch of her house. Forest Department officials reported that a lone elephant had ventured into the residential area of Ramanathapuram and forcefully pulled the woman from her cot using its trunk before attacking her.

Despite the terrifying encounter, Sivagamy managed to escape from the elephant, which had entered the premises in search of easily available food such as cattle feed or rice. However, she sustained injuries on her left leg during the attack and was immediately rushed to a government hospital for treatment.
