Officers belonging to the special Task Force of the state police have recently made an arrest of a terror suspect associated with a banned Bangladeshi terror group in Chennai, as per the latest state police reports.
The individual taken into custody on suspicion of terrorism goes by the name of Seikh Anwar. Originally hailing from Mangalkot village in East Burdwan, the 33-year-old suspect had relocated to Chennai for employment purposes. Allegedly, Anwar was employed as a washerman in the city.
State police authorities have disclosed that Anwar, who is believed to have ties with the outlawed Bangladeshi terror organisation, was an active member of their sleeper cell and was involved in the indoctrination of young individuals in Chennai.
Sources from the STF have indicated that the information leading to Anwar’s arrest was obtained during the interrogation of another suspect named Habibullah, who was apprehended on 22nd June from Panagarh, Kanksa by the state STF personnel.
During the questioning of the said suspect, it came to light that he was affiliated with a proscribed Bangladeshi terror group known as Ansar Al-Islam, which was found to have links to the Al-Qaeda network. Insights from the interrogation suggested that Habibullah was an active member of Sahadat, a sleeper cell within the Ansar Al-Islam organisation.
Further investigations following Habibullah’s arrest led to the capture of another individual named Harez Seikh by the state STF on 25th June. Subsequent interrogations of both suspects ultimately led to the apprehension of Seikh Anwar in Chennai today.
