SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Weekend Weather Forecast for Utah

Greetings, Utah residents! As we head into the weekend, a high-pressure system is moving in, bringing with it a significant rise in temperatures across the state. Expect daytime highs to soar into the 90s for most areas, reaching the upper 90s along the Wasatch Front and even hitting the low 100s in hot spots like St. George and Lake Powell. This surge in temperatures is expected to put us about 10 degrees above the usual seasonal norms.

Sunday is forecasted to be similar to Saturday, with just a slight increase in warmth by a degree or two. Salt Lake City is anticipated to experience its third triple-digit day of the year. While the high-pressure system will bring warmer temperatures and clear, sunny skies over the weekend, there is a possibility of a few showers near the Utah-Colorado border on Sunday.

Fire Weather Watch Issued

While the dry conditions may make for pleasant weather, they also pose a significant fire risk. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the west desert and parts of southern Utah. This watch will be in effect from Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, affecting areas such as the Mojave Desert, Color Country West Desert, Grand Staircase, and the West Desert in central Utah.

Relative humidity levels are expected to drop to as low as 6-15%, accompanied by sustained winds of 10-25 mph from the southwest and gusts reaching up to 35 mph. There is a likelihood that the Fire Weather Watch may be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning as the conditions progress. A weather pattern shift is anticipated at the beginning of next week, driven by a low-pressure system moving in from the northwest but skimming past Utah to the north.

Changing Weather Patterns

Although the core of the system will not directly impact the Beehive State, it will send a mostly dry cold front our way. This cold front will bring about a drop in temperatures of approximately 10 degrees, bringing us closer to the usual seasonal norms. Next week, highs are expected to range from the upper 80s to low 90s for most regions, with hot spots maintaining temperatures in the low to mid-100s.

Looking ahead to the Fourth of July, it is still too early to provide an accurate forecast. However, current models indicate temperatures in the low 90s along the Wasatch Front and upper 100s in St. George, accompanied by clear skies.
