Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that a female driver from Bradenton, Florida, was involved in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Hillsborough County in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Sahai Mata Flatts, was driving a dark blue Mercedes A220 when a trooper attempted to pull her over on SR 589 just after 1 a.m.

Mata Flatts allegedly accelerated to speeds of up to 130 mph as she fled northbound on SR 589, leading law enforcement officers on a dangerous pursuit.

The Mercedes abruptly exited State Road 589 towards Linebaugh and veered off the ramp, crashing into a tree before colliding with a chain link fence, according to authorities.

Following the crash, it was discovered that Mata Flatts’ driving license had been suspended for failing to comply with DUI testing as of May 25, 2024, with multiple other active suspensions in place.

Law enforcement officers noted that Mata Flatts displayed symptoms of intoxication, including red, glossy eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol. She was subsequently taken to St Joseph’s Hospital for medical clearance before being arrested.

She was later transported to Hillsborough County Jail to face charges outlined in the arrest report, including:

  • Reckless driving causing property damage or injury
  • Driving under the influence
  • Refusal to submit to testing
  • Fleeing to evade at high speed
  • Driving with a cancelled, suspended, or revoked license
