NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A New Braunfels resident is currently out on bail following an alleged machete attack on another individual, according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as 66-year-old Michael Martin Ochwat, was apprehended and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon before being transported to Comal County Jail on June 26.

After a bond of $50,000 was set, Ochwat was subsequently released on June 27, as confirmed by court records.

Law enforcement officials in New Braunfels reported that on June 24, in the vicinity of North Market Avenue and E. San Antonio Street, a 55-year-old individual from Canyon Lake sustained a severe laceration to his upper body following an altercation.

Emergency Medical Services promptly transported the victim to a hospital in Kyle where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was involved in a dispute with another motorist. Both individuals exited their vehicles, leading to the suspect, later identified as Ochwat, brandishing a machete-like weapon towards the victim.
