Udalguri, June 30: A 50-year-old man, Jagadish Biswas, from Gerua village in Kalaigaon, Assam, met with a tragic fate on Saturday when he was swept away by the strong currents of the Noa River. The incident occurred as Biswas was returning home after attending a villager’s cremation and attempted to cross the river.
Local reports indicate that despite his efforts, Biswas was unable to reach the riverbank and was swept away before he could be rescued. The news of the incident has left the entire village in shock and mourning.
Search and Rescue Operation
Following the incident, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were swiftly deployed to the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. The Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Officer and Kalaigaon Police have also arrived at the site to provide support and oversee the rescue efforts.
Despite the ongoing search operation, the authorities have been unable to locate Biswas. An officer from the SDRF stated, “We are continuing our efforts with the search operation, but we are unable to trace out the person.”
