LAKELAND, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A major drug trafficking operation in Lakeland, Florida, has been dismantled following a three-year investigation that resulted in the arrest of dozens of individuals. The investigation revealed that a family was using bait and motorcycle shops as fronts for their illegal drug activities, according to authorities.

Family Business Turned Criminal Enterprise

Authorities uncovered evidence of fentanyl purchases from the Rooske drug trafficking organization, which had been using the Rooske Bait and Tackle Shop and Rooske Motorcycle Parts and Accessories for drug trafficking and money laundering purposes. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described the operation as a “family business” where the motorcycle and bait shops were used to conceal their criminal activities.

The mastermind behind the organization was identified as Hector Baez Torres, 43, with his wife, Pilar Rivera, and daughter, Jeimylee Baez Rivera, also implicated. Torres’s “right-hand man” was identified as Miguel Castro Rivera, 24. Additionally, two suppliers of illegal drugs to the organization, Wilfredo Feliciano Velez, 26, and Casimiro Bidot Del Valle, 59, were also arrested.

Seizures and Asset Confiscation

On June 20, authorities executed search warrants at various locations associated with the drug ring, resulting in the seizure of 742.14 grams of fentanyl, 3,585.42 grams of cocaine, 13.08 grams of methamphetamine, 57 grams of oxycodone, and 228.69 grams of marijuana. The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be worth $475,348.60.

In addition to the drugs, over $604,000 in assets were confiscated, including cash, vehicles, watercraft, merchandise, bank accounts, and other items, bringing the total impact on the Rooske Drug Trafficking Organization to $1,080,118.60.

Arrests and Collaborative Efforts

In total, 64 individuals have been arrested in connection with the drug trafficking ring. The investigation, which began in January 2021, was a collaborative effort involving the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, led by Ashley Moody.
