Accident – Death – Obituary News :

LAKELAND, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A major drug trafficking operation in Lakeland, Florida, has been dismantled after a three-year investigation led to the arrest of dozens of individuals. The operation, run by the Rooske family, used bait and motorcycle shops as fronts for their illegal activities, authorities have revealed.

The Rooske drug trafficking organization, headed by Hector Baez Torres, 43, operated out of the Rooske Bait and Tackle Shop and Rooske Motorcycle Parts and Accessories. These businesses were used for drug trafficking and money laundering purposes, unbeknownst to their unsuspecting customers.

Family Business Turned Criminal Enterprise

Sheriff Grady Judd described the organization as a “family business” that was involved in fentanyl trafficking. The Rooske Motorcycle Parts and Accessories and Rooske Bait and Tackle Shop were used as fronts for their criminal activities, while projecting a wholesome facade to the public.

Torres’s wife, Pilar Rivera, and their daughter, Jeimylee Baez Rivera, were identified as co-conspirators in the operation. Miguel Castro Rivera, a 24-year-old, was referred to as Torres’s “right-hand man” in the criminal enterprise.

Seizures and Arrests

Following the investigation, authorities executed search warrants at various locations associated with the organization, including the businesses, homes of key members, and other properties. A significant amount of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and marijuana, were seized during the operation.

In addition to the drugs, assets worth over $600,000 were confiscated, including cash, vehicles, watercraft, merchandise, and other items. The total impact of the seized assets and illegal drugs on the Rooske Drug Trafficking Organization was estimated to be over $1 million.

Collaborative Effort

The investigation was a joint effort involving the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution, led by Attorney General Ashley Moody. The operation, which began in January 2021, resulted in the arrest of 64 individuals connected to the drug trafficking ring.

The successful dismantling of the Rooske drug trafficking organization serves as a testament to the dedicated work of law enforcement agencies in combating illegal drug activities in the region.
