June 30 (UPI) — The man who posed as a police officer with the NYPD in New York City last Sunday and pepper-sprayed a tourist has been identified as a former convict who served six years in prison.

Dominic Ogrady, 35, reportedly blocked commuters from entering the South Ferry subway station in Manhattan and attempted to detain them while falsely claiming to be a law enforcement officer. He was seen wearing a fake NYPD detective shield around his neck.

At approximately 6:35 p.m. on that day, a 46-year-old man tried to walk away from Ogrady, but the imposter discharged pepper spray at the back of the victim’s head before fleeing on a northbound R train.

The victim, aged 46, experienced burning and swelling to his face and sought treatment at Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated and released. Ogrady remains at large and has not been apprehended by authorities.

As per the New York Daily News, the victim was visiting the subway station with his family and allegedly entered through an exit gate without paying the fare.

Ogrady, also known by the alias Domingo Diaz, had previously served a six-year prison sentence for attempted weapons possession. In 2007, he was convicted after being found with a firearm in Harlem. He was released from prison in 2014.
