Accident – Death – Obituary News :
In Chester, Dodge County authorities have identified the individual involved in a recent traffic crash and subsequent death investigation. The incident occurred on Highway 151 south of Highway 49 in the township of Chester. The driver, identified as 91-year-old Arnold Hammer from Waupun, was found deceased at the scene. The sheriff’s office is currently investigating the crash and the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt of Fond du Lac County has raised concerns about the overcrowding at the county’s aging jail facility. State inspectors have warned the county that unless action is taken to address the capacity issues, inmates may have to be relocated at the county’s expense. The County Board recently approved the formation of a Jail Ad Hoc Committee to address these pressing matters. Plans are in place to construct a new jail on land adjacent to the County Highway Department in Fond du Lac. Waldschmidt emphasised the need for a long-term solution, as the current jail, built in 1956 with subsequent additions in 1984, 1994, and 2006, is no longer sufficient to meet the county’s needs.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is inviting public input on proposed improvements along Interstate 39/90/94 in Columbia County. The project aims to patch existing concrete, replace beam guards, clean drainage pipes, and conduct a mill and overlay at the County Road CS interchange. The construction is scheduled for 2027 and will involve off-peak lane closures and limited ramp closures. The DOT encourages all interested parties to visit their website for further information and to provide feedback via email, postal mail, or phone to help shape the project to benefit the community and travellers.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been recognised with two prestigious awards from the international Viddy Awards, judged by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals (AMCP). The Columbus City Council has re-approved a certified survey map for 146 North Dickason Boulevard at a recent meeting. The map, initially approved in December 2023, had not been recorded within the stipulated 30-day period as per city ordinance. The council’s decision reaffirms the development plans for the area, indicating continued progress and growth within the city.
