Alex McGuire Makes Spectacular Hat for Seventeenth Somerset Festival Appearance

Alex McGuire, a shop assistant at Asda, is attending the Somerset festival for the seventeenth consecutive year, having first experienced the event in 2003.

Over the past five years, McGuire has become known for creating his own elaborate hats to wear at Worthy Farm, each one designed to reflect the headline acts of the festival.

This year, McGuire wowed festival-goers with a Coldplay-inspired hat, featuring a 3D-printed replica of the iconic Pyramid Stage, Lego figures resembling the band members, a miniature piano, and LED lights.

McGuire’s dedication to his craft paid off when Coldplay frontman Chris Martin serenaded him with a spontaneous song on his acoustic guitar, expressing gratitude for McGuire’s continued support over the years.

The memorable Coldplay set also featured a surprise guest appearance by actor Michael J. Fox during the performance of “Fix You,” adding to the magic of the evening.

During a special segment of the show, Martin engaged with the audience through the big screens, singling out McGuire for his outstanding headwear. Martin’s impromptu lyrics included praise for McGuire’s commitment to donning the Pyramid Stage on his head.

The cameras also captured other festival-goers, including a group in matching tracksuits and a man with a pineapple hat, before the festival founder Sir Michael Eavis made an appearance.

In an interview before the festival, McGuire shared that he had been working on his Coldplay-themed creation since September, even before the band was officially announced as headliners. His attention to detail and dedication to his craft shine through in his elaborate designs, often taking hundreds of hours to complete.
