Abraham Pacheco, a 32-year-old man from Thornton, Colorado, was apprehended by authorities in Nebraska following a high-speed pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The incident unfolded on Saturday, leading to Pacheco’s arrest on several charges.
Vehicle Theft and Pursuit
The sequence of events began when the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska received a report of a vehicle fire on Interstate 80 near Hershey. A witness observed Pacheco fleeing the scene and heading towards the Interstate Lakes area. Pacheco was then seen breaking into a pickup truck with a camper attached and driving away, running over the owner of the vehicle in the process.
Law enforcement officers initiated a pursuit as Pacheco headed east on I-80, with state troopers taking over as he passed through the North Platte interchanges. Pacheco escalated the situation by driving recklessly, crossing the median, and travelling in the wrong direction on westbound lanes of I-80 at a dangerous speed. The pursuit finally ended when Pacheco exited at the Brady exchange.
Arrest and Charges
Upon parking in the area, Pacheco attempted to evade capture by fleeing into a wooded area. Authorities quickly established a perimeter, and the state patrol’s SWAT team was activated to assist in the search. With the deployment of drones and other resources, law enforcement officers were able to locate Pacheco’s approximate position.
The SWAT team, aided by a K9 unit, successfully tracked Pacheco to a muddy area near a pond, where he was apprehended at around 7:25 p.m. Pacheco was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Lincoln County Jail.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
According to jail records, Pacheco faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, willful reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, theft, and criminal mischief.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, and Pacheco is expected to appear in court to face the charges against him. The swift and coordinated response from law enforcement agencies resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect and the prevention of further harm.
