(BIVN) – A tragic incident unfolded in the Hawaiian Acres community last week, as the lifeless body of a 71-year-old woman was discovered in her home. The victim has been identified as Yong Cha Kim of Mountain View, and authorities have now launched a homicide investigation following the results of an autopsy.
Details of the Crime
Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives believe that the homicide took place sometime between the evening of Tuesday, June 18, and Thursday, June 20. The case has been classified as second-degree murder, and authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading to this tragic outcome.
Police Statement
According to a news release from the Hawaiʻi Police Department, on the afternoon of June 20, Puna patrol officers responded to a residence on Uhini Ana Road in Mountain View after an elderly man found his wife unresponsive on the floor. Upon arrival, officers noted that Kim had suffered suspicious injuries and that items within the residence appeared to be disturbed. It was also reported that several items were missing from the property.
Hawai‘i Fire Department medics assessed Kim and sadly confirmed that she had passed away. The victim was then transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she was officially pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m. An autopsy conducted the following day revealed that Kim’s cause of death was strangulation, leading to the determination of homicide.
