WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26

On Wednesday, June 26th, law enforcement in Tillamook County was involved in a harrowing exchange of gunfire with a 37-year-old man from Damascus. The incident unfolded as Tillamook Police officers, Tillamook County Sheriff’s deputies, and Oregon State troopers attempted to stop a Toyota Tacoma in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer near Highway 101 and Makinster Road. The officers had probable cause to arrest the man, identified as Joey De La Rosa Rodriguez, for evading law enforcement over the preceding days.

During the attempted stop, Rodriguez reportedly discharged a pistol at multiple law enforcement vehicles, prompting an exchange of gunfire between him and personnel from Tillamook Police and the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office. Following the exchange, the suspect fled the scene and a pursuit ensued south on Highway 101 for approximately 5 miles before the vehicle was partially disabled by spike strips on the road.

Fortunately, despite sustaining non-life-threatening injuries during the gunfire exchange, Rodriguez received medical treatment at a local facility before being transferred to the Tillamook County Jail. He faced felony warrants from Clackamas and Yamhill counties, as well as a charge of attempted elusion.

Thankfully, no law enforcement personnel were injured during this intense incident, highlighting the dedication and bravery of those involved.
