Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A resident of Burlington is currently in police custody after a dramatic series of events unfolded on Friday, culminating in a high-speed stolen car chase that left a trail of destruction in its wake. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Thomas O’Halloran, led law enforcement officers on a harrowing pursuit that included crashing into a house, multiple vehicles, a police cruiser, and even gravestones, before ultimately being apprehended.

Erratic Driving Sparks Police Response

The incident began when Burlington police received reports of a beige Ford F-250 driving erratically along Riverside Avenue at approximately 12:30 PM on Friday afternoon. Witnesses described the pickup truck swerving dangerously, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles as it made its way towards the Winooski roundabout. The situation escalated when the truck crashed into a parked vehicle before fleeing towards North Winooski Avenue.

Subsequent calls to the police reported the same truck continuing its reckless behaviour, prompting officers to discover that the F-250 had been reported stolen from Essex, Vermont. The situation took a more dangerous turn when the truck careened onto Pearl Street, where it mounted a curb and drove onto the sidewalk near the Downtown Transit Center on Cherry Street.

Chaos Ensues as Chase Intensifies

As emergency responders attempted to track the erratic driver, the F-250 collided with a house on Manhattan Drive before fleeing the scene and striking another parked car. Multiple 911 calls flooded in, leading police to locate the truck back on Riverside Avenue, where the chase had initially begun. Despite the presence of flashing lights and blaring sirens, the suspect continued to evade capture.

The situation reached a critical point when the F-250 collided with a vehicle stopped at a traffic light, then deliberately rammed into the vehicle it had hit before breaking free from pursuing officers and fleeing once more. The chase took a dangerous turn as the truck entered St. Joseph’s Cemetery, crashing into gravestones in a desperate attempt to escape police custody.

Arrest and Charges

After a dramatic pursuit through the cemetery, the suspect, Thomas O’Halloran, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by law enforcement officers waiting at the bottom of a hill. During the arrest, O’Halloran reportedly bit and injured one of the officers. He was subsequently taken into custody and is being held at Northwest Correctional Facility on a bail of $10,000.

O’Halloran is due to appear in court on Monday, July 1, at 10:30 AM to face a litany of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a police officer, and multiple counts of leaving the scene of accidents. The chaotic events of Friday afternoon have left residents of Burlington shocked and grateful for the swift action of law enforcement in bringing the situation under control.
