Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the sailors who lost their lives in a devastating multi-vehicle crash near Camp Pendleton in California. A Navy spokesperson expressed their condolences, stating, “The Navy family mourns the loss of two shipmates in Thursday’s traffic accident.”
The two sailors have been identified as 37-year-old Stephen Jermaine Williams and 28-year-old Jess Lee Davis. Williams was stationed in San Diego, while Davis was assigned to the USS Alexandria (SSN 757) in the same city.
The third victim of the tragic accident remains unnamed at this time.
The fatal collision took place on Interstate 5 after a Jeep collided with a guardrail in the early hours of the morning. Subsequently, another vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, struck the Jeep, causing it to overturn, as reported by California Highway Patrol via CBS 8.
A group of motorcyclists following closely behind the Jeep and the Sprinter crashed into the vehicles before erupting in flames, according to ABC 7. Tragically, the occupants of the Jeep suffered life-threatening injuries, while those in the other car sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Interstate 5 was temporarily closed from Las Pulgas Road to 76/Coast Highway as the California Highway Patrol conducted their investigation. Motorists were urged to avoid the area until the lanes were reopened later that morning.
