A heartbreaking incident unfolded at MK Baig Madrasa in Ajit Singh Nagar, Vijayawada, where a 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after consuming stale meat. The victim, identified as Sk Karishma from Angaluru village in Gudivada mandal, was one of several students who fell ill after eating the contaminated food served at the school.
The Ajit Singh Nagar police reported that the students partook of the meat on Thursday night at the Madrasa premises. The following morning, Karishma and her peers began experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Karishma succumbed to her condition.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the district medical and health officer (DMHO), accompanied by the food inspector and other relevant authorities, promptly arrived at the scene. Samples of the tainted meat were collected for further investigation.
Food Inspector’s Findings
Food inspector Mohammad Gouse revealed that approximately 100 kg of spoiled meat was discovered in the freezer at the Madrasa. Shockingly, the meat had been in storage for 10 days after being procured by the school authorities on June 17. “We have taken samples of the meat for testing purposes. Depending on the results, legal action under the FSSAI Act will be taken against the management of the Madrasa,” stated the food inspector.
