Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The bodies of three labourers were tragically pulled from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at a construction site in the Vasant Vihar area of the Indian capital, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Deputy Commander of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Ajit Kumar, stated that the operation to recover the bodies lasted nearly 23 hours before the bodies of the three labourers were successfully retrieved.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav (19) and Santosh (38), while the third labourer remains unidentified at this time.

This incident brings the total number of casualties in rain-related incidents in Delhi to eight, highlighting the dangers posed by the heavy monsoon rains that have been affecting the region.

The wall collapse occurred on Friday, and the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) were alerted to the incident at around 5:30 am. Cranes were utilized to clear the debris, and efforts were made to pump water out of the foundation pit to aid in the recovery of the bodies.

A meticulous search operation is currently ongoing to ensure that no other individuals are trapped under the rubble. Teams from the NDRF, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, and various civic agencies are working tirelessly to carry out the operation.

Increased Rainfall Leads to Tragic Incidents in Delhi

Five additional individuals lost their lives in rain-related incidents on the same day, as the monsoon season arrived with force, causing the city to experience its highest level of rainfall for a single day in June in 88 years.

Among the victims were a cab driver who perished when a portion of a canopy collapsed at Delhi airport, a 39-year-old man who was electrocuted in Rohini’s Prem Nagar area, and three individuals who tragically drowned in New Usmanpur and Shalimar Bagh.

Minister Addresses Canopy Collapse at Delhi Airport

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has responded to the tragic incident of the canopy collapse at Delhi airport’s Terminal 1, criticising opposition parties for politicising the event.

Minister Kinjarapu clarified that the roof of the collapsed building is an older structure inaugurated in 2009, and not the terminal inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed sadness over the loss of life and announced compensation for the victim’s family and the injured individuals.

He emphasised that Terminal 1 has been closed, with flight operations shifted to Terminals 2 and 3. The government has set up war rooms to assist passengers affected by flight cancellations, providing refunds or alternative flights as necessary.

In response to the incident, the government has brought in a team from IIT Delhi’s structural department to conduct inspections and ensure the safety of airport structures nationwide.
