Reggie Coverson : “Fatal Shooting in Tuscaloosa: Self-Defense Ruled Out”

A tragic incident unfolded in Tuscaloosa County in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in the shooting and death of a man in what appears to be an act of self-defense. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (TVCU) responded to a call at approximately 3:14 a.m. on June 29 at the 2000 block of Stardust Drive, where they discovered two individuals who had been shot.

One of the victims, a 23-year-old man, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. Fortunately, medical personnel expect him to recover from his wounds. Unfortunately, the other man involved in the altercation, identified as Reggie Coverson, aged 51 and from Tuscaloosa, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following thorough interviews and a review of the case by the District Attorney’s Office, authorities concluded that Coverson had been the aggressor in the incident and was shot in self-defense. As a result, no charges have been filed against the individual who defended themselves.

Evidence gathered by the TVCU indicates that Coverson had initially shot the 23-year-old victim before being shot by a third party involved in the altercation. The case will now be presented to a Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury for further review and consideration.
