JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Morgan County Coroner has identified the victim of a tragic incident at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday. The man, 65-year-old Ralph A. Willhite from Jacksonville, was fatally struck by a 410-winged sprint car while in the infield of the dirt track.
Coroner Marcy Patterson confirmed that Willhite was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident occurred when the sprint car lost control and collided with Willhite in the infield area of the race track. The local authorities and emergency services responded to the scene promptly, but unfortunately, Willhite succumbed to his injuries.
