IRVING, Texas — A suspect accused of the tragic killings of two employees at a Chick-fil-A in North Texas has been apprehended by law enforcement authorities, the police have reported.

Following an exhaustive investigation, officers successfully located and took into custody 37-year-old Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta at around 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2024. He is presently being held at the Irving City Jail awaiting the formal arraignment process, as stated in a press release issued by the Irving Police Department.

The individual in question, who hails from El Salvador, has been formally charged with capital murder and is also being detained under an immigration detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The victims have been identified as 31-year-old Brayan Godoy and 49-year-old Patricia Portillo.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident that unfolded within their establishment, Chick-fil-A released a statement saying, “Our hearts are shattered by the unfortunate events that took place inside our restaurant on Wednesday. We will dearly miss our two Team Members. At this time, our primary focus is on providing support for our Team and the families of the victims.”
