Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Stolen Vehicle and Drug Arrest

During the late hours of June 23, police officers in Woodland were alerted to a suspicious incident in the 1400 block of Van Zee Drive. Citizens reported a tow truck unloading a motorcycle that seemed out of place in the area. Upon arrival, officers encountered a 54-year-old man identified as Mark Hegedus from San Bruno. Further investigation revealed that Hegedus had arrived in a tow truck with a stolen license plate and was in possession of a stolen motorcycle. K-9 Ricky’s alert led to the discovery of 4 ounces of methamphetamine, scales, and cash believed to be related to drug sales. Hegedus was promptly arrested and taken to Yolo County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Stabbing Incident

On the evening of June 25, a stabbing incident occurred near the 1300 block of E. Main Street in Woodland. Police were called to the scene where they found an adult male with a stab wound to the abdomen. According to the investigation, the victim was entering a store when he encountered Derrick Thompson, a 36-year-old Woodland resident. Without provocation, Thompson attacked the victim with a knife and then fled the scene. Thompson was apprehended by officers in a nearby parking lot and was subsequently charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Homeless Outreach Street Team Activity

The Homeless Outreach Street Team (HOST) in Woodland had a busy week making a positive impact on the community. They made a total of 20 contacts with individuals experiencing homelessness and offered services to 12 of them, with 3 accepting the help. Additionally, HOST identified and tagged 10 homeless camps in the area and cleaned up 5 of them to improve the neighbourhood. The team also conducted 4 downtown patrols to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Furthermore, the new Community Enhancement Specialist underwent orientation training and began preparing his response vehicle with necessary equipment to enhance outreach efforts in the city.
