In a shocking turn of events, two women in Petaling Jaya fell victim to a scam by their former boyfriend, losing a total of RM700,000 in two separate incidents between 2018 and 2021. The individual, who remains unnamed, allegedly deceived multiple women and even his business partner, leaving a trail of financial devastation in his wake.
Personal Loan Scam
One of the victims, identified as Low, 33, shared her harrowing experience with the conman. Low met the man in 2017, and their relationship quickly escalated. The man, who was her boyfriend at the time, convinced her to take out a personal loan of approximately RM300,000 as he claimed to be blacklisted by financial institutions. In addition to the loan, Low was coerced into managing the man’s business operations, including handling customers and other business affairs.
As their relationship progressed, Low discovered that the man was involved in multiple affairs and had swindled other women out of large sums of money. These victims reached out to Low, demanding repayment of the debts incurred by the man. Unable to contact her former boyfriend, Low found herself trapped in a financial nightmare, burdened by debts she had unknowingly accrued.
Deceptive Tactics
Another victim, Mah, 33, narrated her ordeal with the scammer. Mah met the man on a dating application in 2021 and soon fell prey to his deceitful tactics. Described as a smooth talker, the man duped Mah into financial losses amounting to RM100,000, adding to the growing list of victims left in his wake.
Business Partner Scam
Aside from his fraudulent activities with women, the man was also accused of scamming his business partner out of RM181,400 in a face mask sale scheme during the Covid-19 pandemic. The partner, left reeling from the financial loss, joined the ranks of those deceived by the cunning manipulations of the scammer.
As investigations continue into the multiple scams orchestrated by this individual, authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and vigilance when engaging in financial transactions or forming relationships, to prevent falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
