Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in San Jose have announced a significant development in a cold case involving the stabbing death of a man eight years ago. San Jose police officers discovered the victim’s body on July 17, 2016, in the 400 block of North First Street, near Ryland Park. The victim, identified as Jose Lopez, 51, had been fatally stabbed.

Despite extensive investigative efforts at the time, a suspect had not been identified or apprehended. However, in a recent breakthrough, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Team revisited the case in 2022 and identified Marco Iniquez Jr. as a potential suspect.

After obtaining a warrant for Iniquez’s arrest, detectives tracked him down in Aromas, an unincorporated community in Monterey and San Benito counties. On May 30, Iniquez was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County jail on a murder charge. He is currently being held without bail at the Main Jail in San Jose and is set to appear in court on July 22.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide are still under investigation. This arrest marks one of several recent successes for the San Jose Police Department, with six homicide cases from prior years being closed in the first half of 2024, two of them with assistance from the DA’s Office Cold Case Team.

Lieutenant John Barg emphasised the importance of collaboration in solving cold cases, stating, “The San Jose Police Department values this collaborative relationship and will continue to seek justice for the victims of unsolved homicides.”

Individuals with information related to the case are urged to contact Detective Sgt. Ivan Barragan at 4106@sanjoseca.gov or Detective Catherine Van Brande at 4542@sanjoseca.gov, or both at 408-277-5283. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously to Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867 or via their website at siliconvalleycrimestoppers.org.
