A Leesburg resident was taken into custody after being stopped by law enforcement for driving without a valid Florida license. The individual, identified as 22-year-old Jose Armando Gonzales-Salinas, was found to only possess a driver’s license from Mexico during the traffic stop.

The incident occurred on State Road 44 near Interstate 75 around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, as reported by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Upon running a check on the vehicle’s tag, it was discovered that Gonzales-Salinas did not hold a valid driver’s license in the state of Florida.

Subsequently, a deputy conducted a stop on the sedan at the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 219 in Wildwood. Upon approaching Gonzales-Salinas, it was confirmed that he only possessed a driver’s license from Mexico and did not have the required Florida license.

Further checks through law enforcement systems revealed no records of Gonzales-Salinas holding a valid driver’s license. As a result, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center for processing, according to the report.

Gonzales-Salinas was subsequently charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and was later released from the detention center after posting a $150 bond.
