In a shocking turn of events, a man currently incarcerated in an Arizona jail has been implicated in a series of crimes that took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The incident in question occurred on May 14, 2024, when Timothy Ruffin was tragically shot and killed in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Street NE.
According to a witness at the scene, two men were engaged in a physical altercation before the fatal shooting took place. The witness reported hearing a loud “pop” followed by several more shots. After the incident, one of the men gathered his belongings, including a black backpack, and fled the scene in a nearby van. The van was later identified as belonging to Ruffin, and additional evidence was found in a Nissan Rogue left behind at the scene.
Investigation Reveals Road Rage Incident Turned Carjacking
Law enforcement officials investigating the case determined that the altercation between Ruffin and the other individual, identified as Jon Marquez, escalated from a road rage incident to a carjacking. Marquez, aged 45, is currently in jail in Arizona on unrelated charges.
During questioning, authorities claim that Marquez professed no recollection of his whereabouts at the time of Ruffin’s murder. However, ballistic evidence linked the bullets used in the shooting to Marquez, leading to his implication in the crime.
Charges Filed Against Marquez
As a result of the investigation, Jon Marquez is now facing charges of open count murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Officials are actively working to extradite Marquez from Arizona to Albuquerque to stand trial for the alleged crimes.
The case continues to unfold as law enforcement authorities in both states collaborate to bring justice to the victims and their families affected by this tragic incident.
