GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A recent poll conducted by EPIC-MRA has revealed that former President Donald Trump is currently leading President Joe Biden by a four-point margin in Michigan, just four months ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

The poll, conducted between June 21 and June 26, showed that 49% of respondents would vote for Trump, while 45% would choose Biden. With a margin of error of plus or minus 4%, the race between the two candidates remains tight and highly contested.

Interestingly, when third-party candidates were included in the poll, both Trump and Biden saw a decrease in their support. Trump’s numbers dropped to 41%, while Biden’s fell to 38%, resulting in a narrower margin between the two front-runners.

Approval Ratings and Voter Sentiments

According to the poll, Biden received a 38% favorable rating, while Trump garnered a 41% approval rating. However, both candidates also faced significant levels of disapproval, with Biden at 57% and Trump at 54%. This indicates that a sizable portion of American voters may be seeking alternative candidates.

Despite the desire for other choices, the likelihood of a new candidate emerging appears slim, especially with the upcoming conventions and third-party candidates trailing far behind Biden and Trump in the polls.

Demographics and Voter Preferences

Out of the 600 individuals surveyed by EPIC-MRA, 42% identified as Democrats, 42% as Republicans, and 13% as independents. Age-wise, 32% fell into the 50-64 age group, 29% were 65 or older, 21% were between 35 and 59, and 18% were aged 18-34.

Furthermore, 80% of respondents identified as white, 10% as Black, 2% as Latino, and 1% each as Asian and Native American. The remaining 6% either identified as other/multiple races or chose not to disclose their race.

Election Preferences and Voting Methods

When asked about their voting intentions for the upcoming election, 58% of respondents stated that they planned to vote in person on election day, while 33% indicated they would opt for absentee voting. Only 4% mentioned they would make use of the nine days of early in-person voting mandated by Michigan law.

Michigan’s primary is scheduled for Aug. 6, with the general election set for Nov. 5. As the race between Trump and Biden continues to tighten, all eyes will be on Michigan as a key battleground state in the upcoming presidential election.
