Accident – Death – Obituary News :
On Friday, Navy officials disclosed the identities of two sailors who tragically lost their lives in a predawn traffic pileup on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton. The name of a third motorcyclist involved in the crash has yet to be revealed.
Victims identified
The two sailors have been identified as Jess Davis, aged 38, from Tennessee, and Stephen Williams, aged 37, from Texas. Davis was a crew member of the Point Loma-based attack submarine USS Alexandria, while Williams was assigned to Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in San Diego, as confirmed by Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred when a group of four motorcyclists crashed into a freeway pileup near Las Pulgas Road around 3 a.m. The initial crash was triggered when a Jeep Wrangler collided with a guardrail before striking a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, causing it to overturn. The motorcyclists subsequently collided with one or both of the disabled vehicles.
Tragically, Williams, Davis, and a third rider succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The fourth motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Injuries Reported
Additionally, four other individuals sustained injuries in the accident, as reported by the CHP. The two occupants of the Jeep, a 29-year-old driver and a 50-year-old passenger, suffered life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to a hospital. Two individuals in the Mercedes were also hospitalized following the crash.
