The three-year-old boy tragically killed in a collision in southwest Edmonton has been identified
The young victim, Heyan Radadiya, was struck by a pickup truck along with his seven-year-old sister Aara and their 39-year-old mother Jalpa. The family was crossing the street at a marked crosswalk in the Allard neighbourhood when the incident occurred. Heyan lost his life at the scene, while his sister and mother were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Fundraiser set up for grieving family
A GoFundMe page was created by a family friend and neighbour, Rakesh Dholakiya, to support the Radadiya family during this difficult time. The fundraiser has already raised over $36,000 of its $100,000 target, with contributions pouring in from nearly 500 donors.
Dholakiya expressed the immense pain felt by the family, stating, “They never imagined they would have to say goodbye to precious boy so soon. Home feels empty without his laughter and hugs.”
Details of the collision
According to police reports, the driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck involved in the collision remained at the scene. Investigators have ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors to the incident, indicating that the driver had stopped quickly at a three-way stop before making a left turn.
Mayor’s response and community support
Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi shared a link to the fundraiser on his social media platforms, urging the community to come together in support of the grieving family. Sohi expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss of Heyan Radadiya and called for donations to assist the family during this challenging period.
The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming, with donations and messages of sympathy flooding in for the Radadiya family. The funds raised will assist with legal fees, funeral expenses, and the family’s recovery process as they come to terms with their devastating loss.
