In a shocking incident in Vijayawada, a physical education teacher (PET) allegedly stabbed a 56-year-old man to death late on Thursday night. The accused, identified as Gaddam Siva Manikanta (31), worked at a private school in Vidyadharapuram. The victim, K Sri Ramachandra Prasad of Cheruvu Centre under Bhavanipuram police station, owned a grocery store in Brindavan Colony under Krishna Lanka police station limits.
According to Krishna Lanka police inspector A Muralikrishna, the incident occurred as a result of the victim rejecting Manikanta’s proposal to marry his daughter. The victim’s daughter, who was in her second year of engineering at a private college in Vijayawada, had been in a relationship with the accused for over three years.
Despite the victim’s disapproval of their relationship and warnings to stay away from his daughter, Manikanta persisted in pressuring the girl to marry him. When the girl refused his proposal, the accused allegedly planned to kill the victim.
On Thursday night, Manikanta confronted the victim and his daughter while they were on their way home. A heated argument ensued, during which Manikanta indiscriminately stabbed the victim with a knife in front of his daughter. He also threatened to share the girl’s photos and videos online.
Passersby rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The accused was arrested by Krishna Lanka police on Friday, and the knife used in the crime was recovered. Police apprehended Manikanta as he was attempting to flee the city.
Prior to the incident, the victim had visited Manikanta’s house to complain to his parents about their son’s behaviour and urged them to intervene. Following a complaint from the victim’s daughter, a case was registered against Manikanta under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of unresolved conflicts and the importance of communication and respect in relationships. It also highlights the need for swift and effective law enforcement to ensure justice for the victims of such heinous crimes.
