A 19-year-old Portland teenager was taken into custody over the weekend after reportedly setting fire to his own car, posing a danger to others in the vicinity. The incident took place in the 15000 block of Southwest Sundew Drive on Saturday, June 22, prompting a swift response from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers were met with the sight of a fully engulfed 1997 Toyota Camry, with flames also spreading to a nearby tree in a resident’s yard. Embers from the fire were drifting towards the adjacent occupied home, raising concerns about the safety of those in the vicinity. Fortunately, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, preventing any injuries.

The individual responsible for the arson was identified as Ethan Mills, a local resident. Following an investigation, Mills was apprehended by deputies near the site of the fire. He stands accused of smashing the windows of his car before setting it ablaze, resulting in the charges of first- and second-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person.
