Accident – Death – Obituary News : A man who posed as an NYPD officer and allegedly pepper-sprayed a tourist at a lower Manhattan subway station has been identified as Dominic Ogrady, also known as Domingo Diaz, a former convict who served six years in prison, according to police reports on Saturday.

The incident occurred at 6:35 p.m. on June 23 at the Whitehall St.-South Ferry station on the uptown R train platform. Ogrady, 35, confronted a family who entered the station through an open exit gate without paying the fare, sporting a fake NYPD detective shield. When one of the family members, a 46-year-old man, ignored him, Ogrady claimed to be a real cop conducting an operation, before pepper-spraying the man in the back of the head as he tried to walk away. The victim was later treated for burns and swelling on his face at Bellevue Hospital.

After the assault, Ogrady fled the scene and boarded an uptown R train. Surveillance footage captured him leaving the 8th Street-NYU station after getting off the train. The NYPD released images of the suspect in torn jean shorts and a T-shirt, displaying the fake police badge he used during the incident, in an effort to identify and locate him.

Investigators later confirmed Ogrady’s identity and criminal history, revealing that he had previously served time in prison under the alias Domingo Diaz for attempted weapons possession in 2007. His record also includes arrests for grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument.
