A Chicago man with a history of making threats against public officials and government buildings has been arrested once again for allegedly threatening the Lake County courthouse, authorities revealed on Saturday.

Daniel B. Pederson, aged 42, was apprehended on Friday by detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Chicago on an arrest warrant for the charge of threatening a public official, a Class 3 felony, according to Deputy Chief Chris Covelli.

The incident came to light on June 14 when authorities were alerted that an individual had passed a note to a security guard at a restaurant in Chicago’s Riverwalk area, detailing plans for “a mass shooting with military precision” at the Lake County courthouse. The note also contained threats aimed at a Lake County judge and a Chicago police officer who was serving as a task force officer for the FBI, Covelli stated in a press release.

Following an investigation, the man identified as Pederson was spotted by the same security guard to whom he had passed the threatening note. Law enforcement was immediately notified, and Pederson was located and taken into custody by Chicago police.

Subsequently, sheriff’s detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Pederson and apprehended him in Chicago. Covelli mentioned that additional charges may be brought against the suspect.

During his initial court appearance on Saturday, Pederson reportedly directed expletives towards the judge and was ordered to remain in custody until a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

This is not the first time Pederson has faced legal trouble for making threats. In 2016, he was sentenced to six years in prison after making threatening calls to a government office, where he stated his intention to “light up” the Gurnee police station and the Lake County courthouse in Waukegan.
