LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A 34-year-old man, identified as Christopher Egenlauf, was arrested on Friday morning after attempting to break into a police vehicle at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department headquarters.
Deputy Chief Dori Koren, who leads the Homeland Security and Special Ops division of LVMPD, informed the media that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when officers discovered a suspicious individual at Metro headquarters.
Koren stated that the man was located in a restricted area of the primary building wearing a tactical vest equipped with ballistic plates and carrying a large fixed-blade knife. He was allegedly trying to gain access to a Digital Forensics vehicle.
Law enforcement authorities were able to apprehend Egenlauf without any further issues. They believe that he may have had intentions to harm police personnel, although the investigation is still in its early stages.
Egenlauf is currently facing potential charges of attempted battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with a motor vehicle, and trespassing. However, these charges are subject to change as the investigation progresses.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures at police facilities to prevent unauthorized access and potential threats to law enforcement personnel.
