On Saturday (June 29), a heart-stopping incident unfolded in Kota Belud and Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysia. A nine-year-old girl, who had been reported missing from her home in Kampung Bobot, Kota Belud, was found safe after being missing for nine hours. The incident took place approximately 5km away from her residence, sparking a frantic search operation.
Search and Rescue Operation in Kota Belud
The Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Services Department sprang into action upon receiving the distress call at 12.05pm. A team of eight brave individuals, led by operations commander Thomas Bolu, swiftly made their way to the scene, located about 8km from their station. With the assistance of three policemen and concerned villagers, the team scoured the area, determined to locate the missing girl.
It was revealed that the young girl had gone missing at 6.30am, causing alarm and concern among her family and the community. Thankfully, she was discovered safe and sound by a relative, five kilometres away from her home. The search operation was officially called off at 3.40pm, bringing a sense of relief to all involved.
Crocodile Attack in Kinabatangan
Meanwhile, in a separate and tragic incident in Kinabatangan, a 24-year-old man, identified only as Azlan, fell victim to a crocodile attack while fishing at the river in Ladang Pontion Subok, Sukau. The shocking attack occurred on the same day, adding to the distress in the region.
Upon receiving the emergency call at 1:32pm, the Kinabatangan district fire station immediately dispatched a team of four courageous individuals, led by operations commander Ahmad Pramuja Zainadun, to the scene. The team faced a challenging 73km journey to reach the location, eventually arriving at 3.50pm to commence the search and recovery operation.
Tragically, the victim’s body was found by members of the public at 2.30pm, approximately 1.2km from where he was last seen. The authorities took over the situation, and the body was handed over to the police for further investigation and necessary actions. The search and recovery operation concluded at 4.33pm, marking a somber end to the day’s events.
These two incidents serve as stark reminders of the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous nature of our surroundings. It is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and supportive in times of crisis, working together to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals.
