A tragic incident in Charlotte, North Carolina has led to the arrest of a 36-year-old woman on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse. The woman, identified as Ashlee Stallings, is accused of leaving her 8-year-old daughter alone in a hot car, resulting in the child’s death.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an emergency call on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte, where they found the young girl in critical condition inside the vehicle. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

During their investigation, detectives determined that the girl had been left unattended in the hot car, leading to a medical emergency that ultimately proved fatal. Stallings was taken into custody and now faces charges related to the tragic incident.

Mother’s Account of the Events

According to reports from The Associated Press, Stallings told police that she had left her daughter in the car with the air conditioning on while she went to work. However, she suspected that the child may have turned off the air conditioning at some point.

The mother claimed to have received a text from her daughter about an hour and a half before returning to the car, only to find the child unresponsive on the backseat floorboard. In a desperate attempt to rescue her daughter, Stallings reportedly used a hammer to break into the car before seeking help from a nearby business on the way to the hospital.

Stallings is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation into the tragic incident continues.

Preventing Hot Car Deaths

This heartbreaking case serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially during hot weather. It is crucial for parents and caregivers to always check the backseat before leaving the car and to never leave a child alone in a vehicle, even for a short period of time.

Authorities urge the public to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
