A tragic incident unfolded in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a mother is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter following the death of her 8-year-old daughter who was left in a hot car. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an emergency call on Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte, where they discovered the young girl in critical condition inside the vehicle.
The child was rushed to a local hospital, but sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Detectives conducting the investigation believe that the girl was left unattended in the sweltering car, leading to a medical emergency that ultimately resulted in her untimely death.
Mother Arrested and Charged
The mother, identified as 36-year-old Ashlee Stallings, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury. According to reports from The Associated Press, Stallings informed the police that she had left her daughter in the car with the air conditioning on while she went to work. However, she suspected that the child may have turned off the air conditioning at some point.
Stallings also mentioned that she had received a text message from her daughter approximately an hour and a half before returning to the car. Upon her return, she found her child unresponsive on the backseat floorboard. In a desperate attempt to save her daughter, Stallings used a hammer to break into the car and sought help from a nearby business before heading to the hospital.
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has taken Stallings into custody as the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues. The community is left mourning the loss of a young life due to the devastating consequences of leaving a child unattended in a hot car.
