A family in Bells, Texas, is celebrating a miraculous turn of events as their baby boy defies all odds and makes a remarkable recovery following a tragic car crash that claimed the life of his grandmother.
The devastating incident occurred on June 12 on U.S. 69 and Denison Street when a vehicle, driven by Angela Woodson, was rear-ended by a pickup truck while waiting to make a left turn. The impact of the collision pushed the car into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a semitruck.
Tragically, Angela Woodson was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind her 3-month-old grandson, Roman, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Despite doctors giving him only a 5% chance of survival due to extensive brain damage caused by lack of oxygen, Roman’s family refused to give up hope.
Roman’s grandfather, Ashley Woodson, shared, “The doctors were not optimistic about his chances. They believed that most of his brain had died, and it seemed unlikely that he would survive. We were even considering the possibility of him becoming an organ donor to help other children.”
However, as the family navigated the complex process of organ donation, they encountered numerous obstacles that seemed insurmountable.
Ashley Woodson recalled, “Finding suitable donors and meeting hospital policies and time restrictions proved to be incredibly challenging. We were constantly hitting dead ends.”
Against all odds, Roman showed small signs of improvement while on a ventilator for 11 days, giving the family a glimmer of hope. On the 12th day, a difficult decision was made to remove the ventilator, unsure of what the outcome would be.
To everyone’s amazement, Roman not only survived but continued to show signs of progress each day.
Ashley Woodson expressed his disbelief, saying, “It’s truly a miracle. Roman’s doctors are astounded by his recovery, unable to explain how it happened. We believe that the power of prayer and a higher force at work have played a significant role in his healing.”
In memory of Angela Woodson, the community has erected a roadside memorial adorned in her favorite color, purple. Despite their grief, the community has rallied together to support Roman on his journey to recovery.
Residents have also initiated a petition to lower the speed limit on U.S. 69 in the area by 30 mph in hopes of preventing future tragedies like the one that befell the Woodson family.
As Roman continues to defy expectations, his family is looking forward to the day when they can bring him home. They have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers that have sustained them through this difficult time.
Ashley Woodson shared, “Roman is doing everything a baby his age should be doing. He is responding to stimuli, moving his limbs, and showing signs of awareness. We are hopeful that he will be able to leave the hospital soon and begin his journey towards a full recovery.”
