BELLS, Texas (KXII/Gray News) – A family in Texas is celebrating the miraculous recovery of their baby boy after a devastating crash that tragically took the life of his grandmother.
According to Bells police, the horrific incident occurred on June 12 on U.S. 69 and Dension Street when a vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck while waiting to turn left.
The impact of the collision caused the car to be pushed into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a semitruck.
The driver of the vehicle, Angela Woodson, tragically lost her life in the crash. Her 3-month-old grandson, Roman, was rushed to the hospital where he fought for survival against all odds.
Doctors initially gave Roman a mere 5% chance of survival, expressing concerns about the lack of oxygen to his brain during the accident.
Roman’s grandfather, Ashley Woodson, recalled the agonizing moments when the family contemplated the possibility of him becoming an organ donor due to his critical condition.
Despite numerous setbacks and obstacles in the organ donation process, Roman showed small signs of improvement while on a ventilator for 11 days, providing a glimmer of hope for his family.
On the 12th day, a pivotal decision was made to remove the ventilation tube, a moment filled with uncertainty and fear for the Woodson family.
To their astonishment, Roman defied all odds and began showing remarkable progress in his recovery, leaving his doctors baffled by the inexplicable turnaround.
The Woodson family credits the power of prayer and faith for Roman’s miraculous recovery, describing him as a true miracle of God.
In honour of Angela Woodson, a roadside memorial adorned in her favourite colour, purple, stands at the crash site, where the community mourns her loss and rallies together to support Roman’s journey to healing.
Community members have initiated a petition to advocate for a reduction in the speed limit on U.S. 69 in the area, aiming to prevent future tragedies like the one that befell the Woodson family.
Roman, now thriving and displaying all the signs of a healthy baby, is expected to be discharged from the hospital and reunited with his mother next week.
Ashley Woodson joyfully shared that Roman can now see light, respond to voices, feel pain, and even move his arms, showcasing the remarkable progress of his recovery.
