Authorities in North Kona, Hawaii, are investigating a fatal crash that took place in the early hours of Friday morning, resulting in the tragic death of a young man.
The incident occurred on Mamalahoa Highway near the 23-mile marker when a SUV crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a sedan. The driver of the sedan, identified as 21-year-old Alvin Godfrey Castro III from Kailua-Kona, was pronounced dead after being transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital.
The 40-year-old female driver of the SUV sustained injuries and was taken to Kona Community Hospital for treatment, where she remains hospitalized. A negligent homicide investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
