Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a startling turn of events, an unidentified man in New Delhi has been duped in a sophisticated scam carried out through the popular dating app Tinder. The victim, said to be a hopeful civil servant, was ensnared in a trap by a woman he had connected with on the platform.

The saga unfolded when the man agreed to rendezvous with Versha, his Tinder companion, at the Black Mirror Cafe located in the Vikas Marg area of East Delhi. According to reports from the authorities, the date commenced on a pleasant note as the pair ordered light snacks, two delectable cakes, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. However, the situation took a dark turn when Versha suddenly cited a family emergency and abruptly departed from the cafe.

Unwary of any deceit, the man concluded his meal and requested the bill. To his shock, the invoice totalled an exorbitant sum of Rs 1,21,917.70 – a figure vastly surpassing the cost of their modest order. When he raised concerns about the unreasonable charges, he was met with intimidation and threats from the cafe staff.

Feeling trapped and coerced, the man reluctantly transferred the entire amount online to one of the cafe’s proprietors, 32-year-old Akshay Pahwa. Subsequently, he promptly reported the incident to the local police authorities.

Police Investigation Unravels Elaborate Scam

Responding promptly, law enforcement formed a specialised unit under the leadership of Inspector Sanjay Gupta to delve into the case. Their inquiries uncovered that the Black Mirror Cafe was not merely a high-priced establishment, but a meticulously orchestrated con. The owners of the cafe, identified as Akshay Pahwa, Vansh Pahwa, and Ansh Grover, were implicated in the scheme. Further investigations pointed towards the involvement of a ‘table manager’, potentially named Aryan, who purportedly made contact with the victim while masquerading as Versha on Tinder.

During the probe, it was divulged that the Black Mirror Cafe is jointly owned by Akshay, Ansh, and Vansh. Akshay and Vansh are relatives, while Ansh is their close friend. The cafe employs several ‘table managers’, with Aryan being one of them, overseen by Digranshu. Aryan, a dropout from Class 7, is presently unemployed.

Pahwa also disclosed information about Versha, who is actually a 25-year-old individual named Afsan Parveen, using aliases such as Ayesha and Noor. Parveen was apprehended at another cafe while on a ‘date’ with a man from Mumbai whom she had met on Shaadi.com.

Revelation of the Scam Operation

Parveen elucidated the modus operandi to the authorities. Aryan initiated contact with the victim under the guise of Versha, sharing Parveen’s photo in one-time view mode and inviting the victim to Laxmi Nagar on June 23 for her birthday celebration.

Upon reaching the cafe, Parveen simulated a family emergency and hastily departed, leaving her companion burdened with the hefty bill.

Each participant in the scheme receives a share of the ill-gotten gains: 15% of the proceeds are allocated to Parveen, 45% is divided among the table and cafe managers, and the remaining 40% goes to the owners.

The police disclosed that similar fraudulent operations are active in major cities such as Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, preying on unsuspecting victims.

Organised Scams Targeting Vulnerable Individuals

These deceptive ploys rely on a well-coordinated network involving cafe proprietors, managers, and accomplices who target susceptible individuals on dating applications, as per the police findings.

The ‘table managers’ create false profiles on dating platforms to entice men to cafes, where they are overcharged for food and beverages. In cases of non-compliance, the men are subjected to threats, physical coercion, or confinement until they acquiesce.
