HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man was sentenced to prison Friday morning in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred at a Henrico mall in July 2021.

On Friday, June 28, Trevon Chappelle received a 15-year prison sentence, with six years suspended, for his involvement in a shooting incident at the White Oak Village shopping center on July 3, 2021.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 3, 2021, Henrico Police were alerted to a shooting at the White Oak Village shopping center.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene at the NOLA by Nisha store within the shopping center, where they discovered a lifeless 16-year-old girl who had succumbed to her injuries. The victim was later identified as Jamirah by her aunt during interactions with 8News reporters at the scene.

Another male victim who had been shot was promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Two additional suspects, namely Jihad Arlik Ruffin and a juvenile male, were also charged in relation to the shooting incident alongside Chappelle.






In December of 2023, Ruffin was sentenced to 43 years in prison, with 15 years suspended, on charges including:

  • Murder: Non-capital felony
  • Maliciously discharging a firearm into an occupied building
  • Using a firearm in the commission of a felony

On the recent Friday, Chappelle received a 10-year prison term, with five years suspended, for involuntary manslaughter, as well as an additional five-year sentence, with one year suspended, for unlawfully shooting into an occupied building in connection to the tragic shooting incident.
